She was a commercial artist at an advertising agency in Norfolk, Virginia, when I met Maire in November, 1972. By the end of 1973 I had convinced her that she was wasting her time and should be painting her own creations full time. January 1974 she started painting 12 to 14 hours a day at night, seven days a week, while I drove a taxi. Thirty-six years later she’s painting, drawing and meditating, still.
Until we arrived in California in 1980, we exhibited her art, indoors and out, in Norfolk, New York, Boston, Providence, Chicago and Minneapolis-Saint Paul.
In San Diego we exhibited at the San Diego Art Institute for several years including a Featured Artist exhibition in August 1986. This led to an appearance on San Diego Channel 51’sTony di Gesu’s show “The Artists”, October 1986.
Until 1994 Maire’s paintings were sold through a San Diego/Palm Desert gallery. Since then she has represented herself.
This site will show as much of, and as many examples of, her art as possible.
